PUBG Battlegrounds creator Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Green has split from PUBG parent company Krafton to form a new studio called PlayerUnknown Productions.
Krafton will hold a minority stake in the new venture, which is based in Amsterdam and was established to “explore, experiment, and create new technologies, pipelines, and gameplay.”
The move will seemingly allow Greene to continue working on a new franchise called ‘Prologue’ as an independent entity, with the title having previously been in development under the PUBG Corp and Krafton banner.
Greene starting work on the franchise back in 2019 after deciding to move away from the battle royale genre, and looks set to continue working on the project while also “exploring the systems needed to enable massive scale within open-world games.”
“Our aim with this game is to give players unique and memorable experiences, each and every time they play,” explains the PlayerUnknown Productions website. “Together with a team of game developers and researchers, we explore new possibilities of interaction and connection within the game space.”
